Manchester Airport has issued a warning to travellers almost a week after heavy snow brought its runways to a standstill. Planes were grounded last Saturday morning as the airport faced bitter temperatures and a flurry of snow.
The conditions had a knock-on effect throughout the weekend and earlier this week, with passengers reporting long delays for flights and baggage. Today (December 16), the airport has issued a warning to anyone travelling to and from the airport over the next few days, with more freezing weather expected in the final weekend before Christmas.
A spokesperson for Manchester Airport said: "Due to the cold weather forecast for this weekend, our teams are working hard to prepare the airfield and are on stand-by to clear any snow that falls overnight as quickly as possible. We are well-placed to minimise any potential disruption, but please check with your airline for any up-to-date flight information if you are travelling over the next couple of days.

"Please check road and rail advice before travelling to the airport and take care. Thank you." The Met Office is forecasting a chance of snow at Manchester Airport on Sunday.
A yellow weather warning for ice is in place until 2pm on Sunday, while the UK Health Security Agency has extended a cold weather alert until midnight heading into Monday. However, the cold snap is expected to come to an end later on Monday, with temperatures as high as 13C predicted for Manchester Airport.
