Manchester Airport: How long security queues are at Terminals 1, 2 and 3

Manchester Airport has hit headlines in recent weeks and months as passengers bemoaned waiting in long queues at security.

For months, people have been told to arrive at the airport earlier to ensure they make their flights. However, airport bosses have recently urged those travelling not to arrive too early, as this can also cause problems.

A tweet sent from the airport's official account last week said: "Passengers should not arrive more than three hours before their flight. Those who arrive earlier may be asked to wait away from the check-in area until the recommended time, to reduce waiting times in security and the departure lounge."

Airport bosses also recently said security waiting times are falling dramatically despite it experiencing its busiest time since before the covid lockdown. Last week, Ian Costigan, Chief Operating Officer of Manchester Airport, said passengers would see an "improved experience" by the autumn with the airport in a "much better place by next summer".

He added that 92% of passengers got through security in under 30 minutes in July.

After many queries and complaints, the airport now lists estimated security wait times for its terminals (1, 2 and 3) on its website.

At the time of publication the estimated times were as follows:

  • Terminal 1: 30-45 minutes
  • Terminal 2: 0-15 minutes
  • Terminal 3: 0-15 minutes
