A man armed with a knife robbed a gold shop in a Lotus’s shopping mall in Samut Sakhon and made off with gold ornaments worth almost 700,000 baht on Saturday.

The robbery occurred at the Bangkok Golds shop in the Mahachai branch of Lotus’s in Khlong Khru of Muang district at around 9.30am, said police.

Employees told police that a man wearing a woolen hat jumped over the counter and used a knife to threaten them. He then grabbed six gold bracelets weighing 22 baht (333 grammes) worth about 670,000 baht before fleeing. Selling prices of gold ornaments were quoted on Saturday at 30,350 baht per baht weight.

A security guard at the shopping mall said he and other people tried to stop the robber but the latter managed to flee on a motorcycle.

Police and forensic officers inspected the shop and were examining security video footage to track down the robber.
