A man returned to a pub, after he was removed by security, with a foot-long machete which he swung at a bouncer and at a locked gate. Reece Swain was said to be "under the affect of something" as he slurred his words outside The Nags Head, Station Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
Swain had been ejected by staff but returned in a vehicle - which arrived with a "screeching jolt", said Lauren Fisher, prosecuting. Miss Fisher told a judge at Nottingham Crown Court, where Swain was sentenced on Wednesday (February 1), the defendant got out of the car with what later transpired to be a machete.
Swain, 31, of Kingsway, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, ran towards the smoking area, which was locked, and used the machete on the gate. He had the blade raised as he swung at the security guard, who bravely stopped him making contact with him on September 3 last year.

Witnesses disarmed Swain, and police swiftly arrived as they happened to be passing and thought initally there was fighting. Swain, who has his own business as a carpet fitter, was shouting and swearing, "I'm going to ******* kill them all" and "I'm a Clifton lad". He pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article and was jailed for ten months.
Judge William Harbage, King's Council, said Swain got involved in a serious incident outside The Nags Head. "You were ejected from the pub earlier in the evening but you came back with a machete. I have seen a photo of that," he added.
"You swung it at a gate and security guard, and uttered threats to people around. A number of people disarmed you, and you were throwing punches at them. Fortunately, police were driving past and managed to detain you.
"Clearly you were under the influence of something - drink or drugs, and said 'I will ******* murder you all'. You said to police, 'it is a good job you turned up or I would have murdered someone'.
"It is fortunate that they were there and no injuries sustained". He ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the machete.
