A man who sexually abused two schoolgirls has been convicted following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

Huseyin Berk, 45, of Hackney, was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault by penetration against a girl under the age of 13 at Snaresbrook Crown Court on June 29.

Berk approached the two girls who were playing outside as he walked his dog. He then lured the schoolgirls to a disused garage where he sexually assaulted them on a number of occasions between April and October 2018.

After abusing them, he warned the girls that “bad things would happen” if they told anyone what was going on.

“Berk was known to the girls for a long time as they had often seen him walking his dog around the area while they played games.

“He encouraged them to pet his dog and built up somewhat of a position of a trust, which he then abused for his own sexual gratification,” Detective Constable Kevin Flynn, said.

Police were contacted by a relative of the victims in November 2018 which led to Berk’s arrest that month. He was charged in August 2021.

Berk will be sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on a date to be confirmed in September.

Mr Flynn added: "We have ensured that specialist support has been in place for these children throughout this process. It is because of their courage that we have seen Berk convicted.

“The Met Police will always investigate any sexual offence involving children and seek to punish any offenders to the fullest extent.

“We have a wealth of specialist skills and expertise that allow us to investigate these kinds of very serious allegations carefully and sensitively. I urge any victims of a sexual offence to take heart from this story and report it to us.”
