Man who's been storing water in garden since 1976 drought now has 11,000 pints

A man who has been storing water since the drought of 1976 has more than 6,000 litres (11,000 pints) of water amid fresh round of hose pipe bans announced today.

Retired head teacher Peter Harden, 82, has lived in his bungalow for 52 years and said he installed his first water butts after the drought in the 1970s.

Peter said he lives in one of the driest areas in the UK and over the years has installed nine massive water containers.
