Man who lost half his body in horrific forklift accident is always asked the same inappropriate question

A man who had half his body amputated after suffering terrible injuries in an accident while working with a forklift is constantly asked the same 'disrespectful' question, his wife says. In September 2019, labourer Loren Schauers, 20, fell 50ft from a bridge and was crushed by the machinery, which severed his forearm and devastated his lower body.

He allowed doctors to perform hemicorperectomy surgery - which involves amputating everything below the waist - in order to save his life. Defying medics' fears that he would not survive, Loren has battled through the last two years, adapting to life without his legs and right forearm.

Loren has married his girlfriend Sabia Reiche, 23, and now posts explainers and weekly vlogs to his followers on the couple's shared YouTube account. Due to Loren's mobility issues, devoted Sabia has to perform many day-to-day tasks for Loren including changing his colostomy bags and showering him, Daily Star reports.

During an online Q&A, Loren and Sabia were asked about the subject of sex. Sabia said: "A question we get repeatedly is how do we have sex and how do we become intimate.

"That is a very personal question that we are never going to answer or allude to as it's very disrespectful. You wouldn't ask a random couple on the street how they have sex and just because our life circumstances are different, it doesn't give people the right to ask."

Loren's operation led to the removal of his genitalia as his pelvis had been completely crushed. He previously said doctors had made efforts to save some of his sperm but concluded it wasn't 'viable.'

Sabia also said on YouTube that she hoped Loren, from Great Falls in Montana, US, could live for another 40 years or more. But she added: "Because his case was so rare it's hard to pinpoint."

The couple are appealing for donations to fund a new bionic arm for Loren. Learn more about the fundraiser on their Go Fund Me page.
