A man released from custody on Tuesday has been charged with 32 offences after leading police on a chase through Tuggeranong streets, homes and backyards on Friday, during which he allegedly stole a car and entered a stranger's home to steal a knife.
Police received reports of a family violence incident in which the man was accused of assaulting his partner and damaging her property.
Officers found the man they believed to be responsible, Justin Cordy, in a Theodore car park.
They tried to arrest the 34-year-old but say he rammed their police car, leaving it undrivable, and fled the scene.
Police found the man's car a short time later after it had crashed into a light pole in Chisolm.
They said witnesses told them he had entered a home and stolen a knife before running through several other backyards.
Police found the man a short time later allegedly trying to steal another car.
They tasered him and he was arrested.
Mr Cordy faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday on 32 charges including assault, aggravated dangerous driving, theft, burglary and breaching a good behaviour order.
He was remanded in custody and will be back in court next month.
