A man who netted a surprise £20,000 in his eBay buy has refused to return the cash to the hapless seller. The unnamed buyer told seller James Labrecque it's 'finders keepers'. The unnamed buyer purchased a secondhand safe through the online auction site for £80. And when it turned up, he discovered the £20,000 inside.
James Labrecque sold the heavy-duty safe because he didn't know combination to open it. To him it was useless, so he put it on eBay, reports MirrorOnline. When the buyer managed to prise it open, their brute force was rewarded. But when James asked for it back, he was told no way.
Speaking to local news outlet WMC-TV, James, from California, said: "I made a mistake, you know, that's what it boils down to, and it cost me dearly. I shook it and I didn't feel anything inside of it, so I figured, well, maybe it's just a locked safe, you know. So I put it on eBay. I told my friend, I won the stupidest idiot in the world award the other day, you know - I gave away a safe with $26,000 (£20,000) in it."
