Man who died in crash involving lorry and car named

THE 23-year-old man who died following a road crash with a lorry in Lockerbie, Dumfries and Galloway, has been named.

Emergency services were called to the B7076 near its junction with the A709 Dumfries to Lockerbie Road around 11.50pm on Tuesday following a crash involving a BMW 1 series and articulated lorry.

Police said a 23-year-old man, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the BMW has now been named as Archie Williams.

The driver of the lorry, a 65-year-old man, did not require hospital treatment.

Police said they are keen to speak to the driver of a red car travelling southbound on the B7076 prior to the crash who might be able to help with their investigation.

Enquiries into the crash are ongoing. 

Sergeant Colin Ramage said: “Our thoughts are with Archie’s family and we are providing support to them as our enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of this crash.

“We would appeal to anyone who was driving on the B7076 around the time of crash, who either witnessed it take place or who has any information that may assist. Any driver with dashcam footage is asked to please contact us as soon as possible.

“We are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a red car travelling southbound on the B7076 prior to the crash who may be able to assist with our investigation.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 4261 of October 29.”
