A man who was charged with raping a 90-year-old woman after allegedly breaking into a NSW nursing home last year is now also charged with murder and manslaughter, after the woman died in hospital as a result of her injuries.
Police allege the 34-year-old man broke into the aged care home at Bateau Bay, on the Central Coast, about 12.40am on 15 November 2023 before allegedly assaulting and sexually assaulting the woman.
The man was arrested at a home near Lake Macquarie and charged with aggravated breaking and entering, inflicting actual bodily harm with the intent to have sexual intercourse, aggravated sexual assault (break and enter) and aggravated sexual assault (inflict actual bodily harm on victim).
Police were notified on 28 November 2023 that the woman died in hospital “as a result of her injuries,” NSW police said in a statement.
On Friday, the man’s charges were upgraded to include murder and manslaughter “as a consequence,” the statement said.
He was due to appear before Gosford local court on 21 February 2025.
