A man armed with a knife and wearing a gas mask in an Inverness street has sparked a major emergency service response.
The man, clothed in combat gear, was seen climbing out of a flat window on Polvanie View.
Local residents also claimed a flat had been set alight in the street.
It is understood that there are seven police vans alongside two Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) vehicles currently in the area.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang and told how paramedics have now arrived on the scene.
It is not yet known whether there have been any other injuries following the incident.
The road currently remains cordoned off by the police.
Fire crews are still working on the blaze on the second-floor of a three-story block.
An SFRS spokesperson told the Record: "We were called to Polvadie View, Inverness at 3.14pm on Thursday.
"A few appliances were sent to the scene and are still in attendance."
Police Scotland have also been contacted for comment.
