Man warns JustEat shoppers after being charged £249 for Greggs sausage and bean melt delivery

A man has warned JustEast customers to make sure they check their delivery fee after he was accidentally charged £249 to get a Greggs delivered.

Liam Halewood, who lives in Blackpool, bought £11.80 of items on the food ordering app including a popular sausage bean and cheese melt, Walkers crisps, a four-pack of cookies and a ham and cheese baguette. But the 36-year-old was shocked to find that £261.39 had been taken out of his bank account for the Greggs treat.

After checking the app and finding that the delivery fee was listed as a staggering £249, Liam shared the mishap on Twitter and said that several people got in touch to tell him that the same thing had happened to them. “One said it was costing them £900 and another said it was going to cost them £399 for the delivery charges,” he told the Liverpool Echo .

JustEat has now refunded Liam after the 'glitch' (Liam Halewood)

“I think JustEat has had a glitch in its system, which to be honest for a big company it shouldn't happen really. If someone didn't check their statement and that money got taken out they say you only have 24 hours to rectify any order that you have made.”

JustEat has since refunded Liam for the eye-watering charge and given him £5 off his next order. But he is continuing to warn other shoppers to ensure they double-check their online food orders, and hopes that sharing his experience will remind others to examine their receipts.

“This kind of thing has made me realise that you should check every time you're ordering and make sure they're charging the correct delivery fee,” he said. "My thing was just that there was probably a glitch - and how many people actually ordered and never checked?”

A spokesperson for JustEat said: “We're aware of an issue on our platform today that briefly affected the price of delivery orders for a very small percentage of our customers. This issue is now completely resolved and we are in the process of offering a full refund for all customers affected.”
