Man Utd transfer round-up: Rangnick to aid Pogba exit as Red Devils face loan uncertainty

For one reason or another, Manchester United have failed to keep out of the limelight this season.

From on-pitch humiliation to their managerial merry-go-round, the Red Devils have hogged the headlines this season, and with the January transfer window in full swing, this month is proving no different.

United were tipped to be one of the busier of the Premier League 's teams with plenty of incomings and outgoings touted, amid suggestions a number of the squad are disgruntled and eyeing moves away.

However, in reality, there has been little transfer activity at Old Trafford. So far, anyway.

Heading into the final few weeks of the window that all looks set to change as Mirror Football brings you up to speed with all the latest gossip coming out of the red half of Manchester, including a revealing update on Paul Pogba.

Rangnick to aid Pogba exit

With Pogba entering the last six months of his current United deal, and yet to commit to an extension, the Frenchman's future has been shrouded in uncertainty for some time now.

However, interim manager Ralf Rangnick has finally provided a key update - and it isn't good news for United fans.

The German has all but confirmed the midfielder's departure, but claimed he will play him during the remainder of the season, if only because the World Cup winner will want to put himself in the shop window for a lucrative move to his preferred destination: Real Madrid.

“Yes of course,” said Rangnick. “By the way, my contract as a manager is also expiring in the summer. So for us, we have the same goal.

“We have the same ambition to be as successful as we can possibly be in the next three or four months."

He added: “He wants to show the fans of Manchester United, the board, the whole world, what kind of player he can be, even if it's only to show enough for a new contract elsewhere."

Pogba, who returned to Old Trafford in 2016 for a then-world record transfer fee of £89.3million, now appears set to leave the club as a free agent for the second time.

Newcastle pushing for Lingard loan

Another play within United's roster who only has six months remaining on his current deal and could also depart for free in the summer is Jesse Lingard.

And it appears the midfielder may never feature for the club again, as according to Manchester Evening News, recently bankrolled Newcastle are targeting a loan swoop this month.

The Magpies hope to bring the England international to St James' Park for the remainder of the season and are reportedly willing to cover his £100,000-per-week wages.

Despite interest from the relegation strugglers, the 29-year-old is believed to favour a move to London, having enjoyed a highly successful loan spell with West Ham during the second half of last season.

The Hammers have previously been linked with a Lingard reunion, while Tottenham are also reportedly interested, though it appears unlikely that United would be willingly to bolster a direct rival in the race for Champions League football.

Juve play down Martial move

Anthony Martial has made no secret of his desire to depart Old Trafford this month but his chances of sealing a loan move away appear to be growing increasingly slim.

The French forward reportedly turned down offers from Premier League pair Tottenham and Newcastle in favour of a move abroad, but United's demands for interested club's to cover the full cost of his salary and loan fee have put paid to the player's hopes.

Spanish side Sevilla have been priced out of a move after seeing a loan offer rejected and now it appears Juventus are cooling their interest due to United's substantial stipulations.

As cited by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Juventus director Maurizio Arrivabene quashed suggestions Martial could soon make the move to Turin, telling reporters on Tuesday night: “Not at those figures, no. We aren’t even going to discuss it at certain figures.

"With current conditions [loan fee and paying full salary paid] it's not a feasible deal for us. Considering certain numbers, there are no advanced talks - we don't expect any discount from Man Utd."
