Erik ten Hag has already proved it's wise to follow his transfer approach with his Manchester United signings this summer making an impact.
And with Cristiano Ronaldo gone, United will have no choice but to replace him in January and fill the goalscoring void left by the Portuguese - even he did play a bit-part role this season. His wages, or lack of now, will no doubt help.
Although Ten Hag's project is a long one, attaining a Champions League place this season would present a major step forward for United. It would also make future acquisitions easier as the Dutchman looks to rebuild the Old Trafford side.
With that said, here are the latest United transfer rumours and gossip below.
Felix's final talks
Joao Felix is almost certain to leave in January and both Manchester United and Arsenal are the front-runners, and obvious candidates for his signature.
Even a loan option, which seems the most likely, would be a fine option for United to replace Ronaldo.
According to Le 10 Sport, Felix is happy to leave Atletico, possibly on a permanent basis depending on Diego Simeone's own future next summer, and has entered final talks with agent Jorge Mendes.
This is set to be the saga of the January transfer window.
Pogba to blame
Pogba's time at United was very much unfulfilled and a feeling of what could have been, but, in a bizarre set of circumstances the France international also had a knock-on effect with a certain transfer.
According to Marko Arnautovic, who very nearly moved to United in the summer, he could have moved to Old Trafford earlier...had it not been for Pogba.
In his own words, he told Gazzetta dello Sport : "Jose [Mourinho] wanted me when I was at West Ham. He asked me how much I cost. But then United didn’t have enough money to sign me, because they had already bought Pogba."
PSV issue
United have entered the race to sign shining World Cup star Cody Gakpo following on from their initial interest last summer. When the option to sign Antony became available United went for the Brazilian.
While their interest remained, Ronaldo's departure has accelerated their desire to capture the Dutch star. And while many may think his three goals at the World Cup would have added to his price tag, it appears financial issues mean PSV will cash in on the forward.
