Man Utd transfer round-up: Erik ten Hag 'misses out on key target' and Paul Pogba latest

Manchester United have endured a nightmare campaign, failing to end their five-year wait for silverware and facing the prospect of Europa Conference League football next term.

The Red Devils are currently sixth in the table and will drop into Europe's tertiary competition if West Ham in seventh win their last two Premier League fixtures. Yet, as they say, there's always next season. Erik ten Hag will succeed interim boss Ralf Rangnick and is determined to finally bring success to United's fans and fix their failing squad.

To do that, the Dutchman will need to buy and sell players in the transfer market. It promises to be a busy window for Ten Hag and United's hierarchy. Here are the latest transfer rumours coming out of Old Trafford.

Dalot to stay

Diogo Dalot is part of Erik ten Hag's plans next year, according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo.

The 23-year-old, who joined the club in the summer of 2018, has finally broken into United's team this season - making 29 appearances in all competitions. He's become the primary right-back under Ralf Rangnick, displacing Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the starting XI.

Ten Hag is expected to follow in Rangnick's footsteps by keeping faith in Dalot. His ability to play both full-back roles and offensive attributes are thought to have impressed the new boss. Dalot has become a senior Portugal international during the last two years and impressed during a loan spell at AC Milan last season.

United's hopes dashed

Newcastle are closing in on Hugo Ekitike's signature (Getty Images)

Who should Manchester United sign this summer? Let us know in the comments below!

Newcastle are reportedly close to signing United target Hugo Ekitike, according to 90min.

It's believed the Red Devils have been monitoring the 19-year-old striker - who's 10 goals for Reims in all competitions this season - for some time. Ekitike has represented France at U20 level and been linked with Manchester City, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund.

Yet it appears Newcastle will pip United to his signature. Manager Eddie Howe is said to have added Ekitike to his transfer shortlist in December and talks between the Toon and Reims have been ongoing since. Ekitike is thought to be keen on a move to St James' Park and appreciates Howe's belief in his ability.

Pogba's reps heads for Turin

Paul Pogba's representatives will be in Turin on Monday to discuss a potential move to Juventus, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The midfielder's contract expires next month and few are expecting him to sign an extension at Old Trafford. Salary is believed to be the biggest sticking point, while Paris Saint-Germain are also in talks with Pogba's team. The World Cup winner will not be making a controversial move to local rivals Manchester City.

Pogba enjoyed the most successful period of his club career at Juventus, winning four Serie A titles, two Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups. His second spell at Old Trafford hasn't worked out as planned, winning just the EFL Cup and Europa League.
