Man Utd transfer round-up: Depay to make ‘final decision’ on future as Vlahovic targeted

Manchester United remain in the hunt for a new attacker following Cristiano Ronaldo ’s departure and there are now two leading candidates to replace the 37-year-old.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo since the summer but Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic has now entered the equation. However, former player Memphis Depay has also been named as a potential candidate and Erik ten Hag will discover whether or not he has a chance of signing his comrade in the very near future.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer stories coming out of Old Trafford…

Depay to make ‘final decision’ over future

Man United could be about to find out whether they have a chance of signing former player Depay in January as the Dutchman prepares to make a ‘final decision’ over his future next week.

The Dutch international departed Old Trafford in 2017 following just one full season with the club but revived his career at Lyon following 76 goals in 178 appearances for the French club. Depay was then snapped up by Barcelona in 2021, but has made just two appearances this season.

United have been linked with a move for their former player and Sport have now revealed that the 28-year-old will decide on where his future lies ahead of the January transfer window when he returns to first team training next week.

United plan ‘serious’ Vlahovic swoop

Man United could be about to make a ‘serious’ attempt to sign sought-after Juventus striker Vlahovic in January as an alternative to Benfica’s Joao Felix.

The Red Devils are in desperate need of a new striker. Ronaldo’s departure, coupled with Anthony Martial’s injury struggles and Marcus Rashford ’s inconsistency mean a reliable goalscorer is needed. As a result, Serbian forward Vlahovic is now being targeted.

And according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, United are planning to make a serious attempt to capture the 22-year-old, who Juventus could be willing to sell just a year after buying him in order to ease their financial struggles.

Three-man right back shortlist emerges

As well as a striker, Ten Hag remains intent on securing a new right back at Old Trafford and it has now emerged that a three-man shortlist has been drawn up ahead of January.

Diogo Dalot has been in the form of his life this season but Ten Hag wants additional cover, as well as someone who can challenge the Portuguese defender. With Aaron Wan-Bissaka set to depart, the Dutchman has now identified who he wants to replace the former Crystal Palace man.

According to Sky Germany, via SportsMole, United have identified Lyon's Malo Gusto, Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong and Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries as right-back targets, although signing any of those mid-season is set to provide a big challenge for the Red Devils.
