Manchester United have missed out on a host of transfer targets this summer with Benjamin Pavard now added to the list.
The Bayern Munich defender was on Erik ten Hag's shortlist as he eyed new backline reinforcements. The Frenchman was weighing up his future in Germany amid interest from several suitors, but has since decided to remain at the Allianz Arena, according to L'Equipe.
United considered making a play for the World Cup winner, who can play on the right-side of defensive as well as centrally. But they left it too late to make their move and remain on the lookout for new faces.
Right-back is an area where Erik ten Hag wants to strengthen, whilst he demanded transfer business was done as early as possible to aid their pre-season preparations. Yet the club failed to get business sharply wrapped up and delays reportedly meant their did not time it right to get Pavard to Old Trafford.
Currently Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are his two options but he wants to make changes before the transfer window closes. Ten Hag's first summer at United has been one of frustration, with the club missing out on a host of key targets.
Frenkie de Jong is the most high profile of those and the Red Devils have since signed Casemiro, which could end their interest in the Barcelona man. They were also linked with Juventus ' Adrien Rabiot before the deal collapsed.
Ten Hag has also looked to raid his former club Ajax for signings, but so far Lisandro Martinez is the only man to make the switch from Amsterdam to Manchester. Jurrien Timber turned down a move to the Premier League whilst, as things stand, United will also miss out on Antony.

It has been the same story in the final third with Ten Hag looking to add more firepower as Cristiano Ronaldo's situation remains unclear. A possible exit for the No 7 would leave United looking for a goalscorer and Red Bull Salzburg youngster Benjamin Sesko was linked before he headed to RB Leipzig.
The United boss still wants to add reinforcements in midfield, attack whilst also wanting a back-up goalkeeper who can rival David de Gea for the No 1 spot. Dean Henderson left for Nottingham Forest on loan which leaves the Red Devils light in that area.
A source close to Ten Hag told Mirror Sport: "United are going into the final days of the transfer window with all guns blazing." Casemiro, who joined earlier this week, was the fourth signing of the window after Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen all moved to Old Trafford.
