Man Utd Supporters' Trust issue statement on takeover after Sir Jim Ratcliffe declaration

The Manchester United Supporters' Trust has issued a statement demanding it be brought in alongside any new owners.

Britain's richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe has announced his intention to submit an offer to buy the club from the Glazers. The Americans have faced increasing criticism over the running of the Red Devils, with Erik ten Hag's men currently rock bottom of the Premier League.

There are now suggestions that the Glazers could look to sell up their shares in United, following a disastrous decade since they last won the title. The Supporters' Trust (MUST) has been vocal in its criticism of the running of the club, with fresh protests set to take place during the game against Liverpool on Monday.

And with speculation mounting over the possibility of a new regime coming in as owners, MUST has now demanded it be brought into any bid. The Supporters Trust also made it clear any new owner must also share their hopes for turning United around.

"Speculation is mounting about a potential change of ownership or new investors at Manchester United." Whilst supporters have called for change, of course, this has to be the right change," the statement read.

"Any prospective new owner or investor has to be committed to the culture, ethos and best traditions of the club. They have to be willing to invest to restore United to former glories, and that investment must be real new money spent on the playing side and the stadium.

"Finally, any new ownership structure must embed supporters, including a degree of fan share ownership, in their operating model. These are the criteria supporters will judge any bid on. We are open to dialogue with any bidder, and look forward to any such discussions."

Ratcliffe announced his intentions on Wednesday, with a spokesperson for the billionaire insisting he would be interested in buying the Red Devils. He currently owns Ligue 1 side Nice and is a boyhood United fan.

'If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer. If something like this was possible, we would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership," a spokesperson for Ratcliffe told The Times.

"This is not about the money that has been spent or not spent. Jim is looking at what can be done now and, knowing how important the club is to the city, it feels like the time is right for a reset."

The Glazers have owned United since 2005 when they bought the club for £790million. But after seven years of stunning success under Sir Alex Ferguson, things have soured since the legendary manager retired.

Five bosses have been appointed, with no league title being won since Ferguson left. The gross debt of the club is also close to £600m, with the Glazers reportedly seeking £6billion to hand over the Red Devils to new owners.
