Man Utd's Wissam Ben Yedder transfer agreement as Cristiano Ronaldo Plan B explored

Erik ten Hag is running out of time to ensure Manchester United are adequately prepared up top in the coming season.

Currently, the Red Devils boss has the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and a rejuvenated Anthony Martial to call upon. He may also have the club's talisman Cristiano Ronaldo to lead his line on the opening day of the campaign - when United take on Brighton - but the Portugal international's future is still undecided.

Ronaldo rocked Old Trafford earlier in the summer when he revealed he is considering his options and would like to be allowed to leave for a club competing in the Champions League. Personal reasons meant he didn't accompany his teammates on their pre-season tour, which has now concluded.

Ronaldo is due back at United's Carrington base this Tuesday where he will discuss his future with Ten Hag and his team.

As reported by Mirror Football, Man United are exploring the possibility of letting Ronaldo leave on loan - a stance that surprised the five-time Ballon d'Or-winning forward.

Should Ronaldo get his own way and depart before the summer window slams shut then Ten Hag will need to make sure the Portuguese striker is replaced with adequate quality.

Anthony is a top target for the former Ajax boss, while Memphis Depay has also recently been linked with a return to United as Barcelona are looking to offload talent to balance their books.

Other names on the list include PSG superstar Neymar, Brentford striker Ivan Toney, Stuttgart forward Sasa Kalajdzic and a man the club have previously been linked with, Monaco star Wissam Ben Yedder.

Back in 2019, Ben Yedder was plying his trade at Sevilla when he caught the eye at Old Trafford.

According to Sevilla-based outlet La Colina de Nervion at the time, the Red Devils spoke with the striker and had "everything agreed" for a transfer to take place.

United were looking for Romelu Lukaku replacements, with the Belgian leaving the club for Inter Milan in the same transfer window, but overspent on both Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

As a result, the Red Devils missed out on the then £35million-rated Ben Yedder and would instead settle for a cheaper option the following January when they brought Odion Ighalo in on loan.

Ben Yedder will not cost anywhere near his previous £35m valuation and could prove to be an astute last-minute signing this summer should Ronaldo indeed depart the club.
