Bruno Fernandes needs just three more assists in this season's Champions League to break the all-time record for the most produced in a single campaign.
The Manchester United midfielder has delivered seven assists in Europe so far this term, two more than Ajax's Brazilian star Antony.
Fernandes reached his current tally on Wednesday evening, setting up teenager Anthony Elanga to secure a 1-1 draw against Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.
The current record holder is Liverpool midfielder James Milner, who produced nine assists during the 2017-18 campaign. The Reds reached the final that season.
Although Fernandes is close to the record, he may struggle to break Milner's impressive tally before United's European journey comes to an end.

The Red Devils aren't among the favourites to win the Champions League, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Bayern Munich all being tipped by the bookies.
United will likely need Fernandes to go on and break Milner's record if they stand any chance of lifting a fourth European Cup in May.
Although many believed the Portuguese talent is one of United's best players, club legend Paul Scholes doesn't think he's good enough against Europe's best teams.
"I think he can do it in certain games, don’t get me wrong but it’s only certain games," Scholes told BT Sport.
"At Burnley away, yes. Tonight [against Atletico], possibly because United will have a lot of possession. He can play that position without a problem.
"But when you come up against the best teams when they don’t have as much possession - they won’t have the ball as much - he will get found out.
"I think he’s much better in the number 10 position, floating round, getting on the ball and creating chances as he does."
Despite Scholes' criticism, Fernandes believes he and United are heading in the right direction under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Rumours of dressing-room unrest are circling around the media and the Red Devils are battling in the Premier League, clinging on to fourth in the table.
"We have to follow what the manager and staff think is the best way for us," said Fernandes ahead of United's draw against Atletico.
"Here at this club I have never heard anyone complain about the tactics and I hope no one would do.
"That doesn't respect the coach's ideas because I think we have been doing so well since he arrived. We have more identity as a team."
On the dressing-room rumours, Fernandes added: "I don't know what people mean by [these stories], honestly.
"I was doing an interview and they asked me about Jadon [Sancho] doing my celebration. I don't think that is something that is going in different ways.
"I saw the goal of [Maguire] and I'm seeing Paul [Pogba] running behind him sliding on his knees. Everyone was happy for him.
"I was slapping [Maguire's] head and saying, 'Finally you score with that big head.'
"So, I think honestly it's just people trying to complain and make up stories about this club.
"We know when someone talks about us they go around the world with their voice and that's something they want.
"For us, it means nothing. We stick to the plan and we stick together. That's the main thing - sticking together and winning together."
