Man Utd's 2022-23 away kit 'leaked' but fans can't make up mind over adidas overhaul

Manchester United's potential away kit for the upcoming season has been leaked online - and fans are divided over the design of Adidas' latest offering.

United are set for a fresh season under new boss Erik ten Hag at the hot seat following their poor campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick. And it seems they're set for a fresh look off the pitch as well, after images of their supposed new kit were leaked online.

Adidas, who have been with United since 2014 after a 10-year sponsorship worth £750m was announced, was tasked with creating next season's kit and it seems that they have opted for a unique feel to the shirt, reverting to the past - the famous treble-winning 1998/99 campaign.

The white away kit has a black collar with the Adidas stripes on the shoulder being red and black stripes, while the United badge has a black background. The new shirt, which was leaked online by Footy Headlines, has divided opinion among fans, with some praising the retro look.

The shirt is designed to look like the famous kit from the 1996-97 season, which was produced by Umbro. That top featured the same design on the badge, and some supporters are predicting the new offering will go on to be a classic.

"This kit is hot," wrote one fan on Twitter. "Nice but the stripes are dodgy," added another fan. "This kit is fire. Will be a classic shirt in 10-15yrs easily," wrote another.

Naturally, however, not all fans were on the same page and some tore into the design and called for Adidas' contract to be torn up. One wrote: "God that is horrific," while another asked: "When is Adidas contract up? That's terrible."

"Those stripes at the top are genuinely grim, if they were just black this would be 10/10," added another, and one supporter tweeted: "I don't know why people don't like it. I love it. Really retro."

United's new home kit for next season has also been leaked, and it too will feature a retro feature - this time on the collar. Fans will be hoping results on the pitch start to look like they did in years past, with the club reeling from their worst-ever Premier League finish.

Ten Hag is currently working alongside John Murtagh to finalise transfers and rebuild the squad at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Ajax's Antony, and are also in the mix for Christian Eriksen.

Their top target is Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, but the two clubs are currently at an impasse over a transfer fee, as Mirror Football exclusively revealed. Barca want a fee north of £70m, but United are only ready to spend £60m plus add-ons.
