Manchester United will have been without Premier League action for a month by the time they return for their first fixture after the international break, but continuing their four-match winning run and their rise up the table will still be very much on their minds.
And defender Lisandro Martinez believes that United’s ‘fighting’ spirit has been a huge factor in their revival, insisting that they now strike fear into their opposition. Elsewhere, transfer ‘target’ Joao Gomes has made an admission over his future, while Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed that his “journey is not over”.
Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of Old Trafford.
Lisandro Martinez hails ‘fighting’ spirit
Argentine defender Martinez believes Man United have put the fear factor back into Old Trafford following four straight wins in the league to take them up to fifth in the table after successive defeats to start the season.
That domestic run included back-to-back Premier League wins at home to Liverpool and Arsenal, with defender Martinez convinced teams will now fear travelling to Old Trafford once again. “In the beginning, it was no good,” said Martinez, United's player of the month for August. “It was not what we wanted. But we changed direction after Brentford.
“We changed the mentality, we changed the spirit. Then we did an amazing job against Liverpool and then we kept going and you can see now, every game the team is ready to fight. This is Manchester United, no? When the teams come to play in our stadium, they have to feel it wasn't easy for them. So yeah, now we feel very well about it.

Transfer ‘target’ Joao Gomes makes Liverpool admission
Man United ‘target’ Gomes could be set to seal a summer move in 2023 but not to the Red Devils, with the Brazilian making his own admission over playing for Liverpool in a recent social media post.
Flamengo could be open to selling talented prospect Gomes next year and the midfielder has been attracting admiring glances from the Premier League, with United believed to be one of the clubs keeping tabs. But it is a move to Anfield which would be the ideal scenario for Gomes after he recently pledged his ambition to play for the Merseyside club.
ESPN claim United sent scouts to watch Gomes last season, but in a Q&A on social media recently, the 21-year-old said: “Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”

Cristiano Ronaldo vows his “journey is not over”
Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed to continue playing at the top level until at least 2024 and insisted the journey of his playing career “is not over yet”.
The Portuguese superstar was speaking at the Quinas de Ouro in his home nation after being recognised as the top international scorer for the year. Aged 37, Ronaldo has lost his starting spot at Manchester United but remains as important as ever at international level.
Ronaldo said upon receiving the award on Tuesday night: "I hope to continue being part of the Portuguese international setup for a few more years. I feel motivated, my ambition is high. I am in a team with young people, I want to be in the World Cup but also in the next European Championships."
