Man Utd news: Rio Ferdinand feud sparked as Erik ten Hag deals Jadon Sancho reality check

Manchester United's first season under Erik ten Hag's management was a success, with the Red Devils finally ending their long trophy drought.

But their bitter rivals City are celebrating a historic treble after winning the Champions League. And United hero Rio Ferdinand's praise of Pep Guardiola's men has not gone down well among the current crop of Red Devils stars.

Outcast Brandon Williams publicly made his unhappiness clear, with a series of messages on social media aimed at Ferdinand. That feud comes as Guardiola revealed he had been sent a message by Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of City's win.

And Jadon Sancho was also handed a reality check by Ten Hag about his future role at Old Trafford. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Manchester United news.

Williams sparks Ferdinand feud

Manchester United defender Brandon Williams has been left unhappy with club legend Rio Ferdinand's praise for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's side became the first English team since United to win the treble by defeating Inter Milan in the Champions League final.

But Williams was furious that Ferdinand had been full of admiration for Guardiola's side. He wrote on Instagram : "Nobody wants a sloppy seconds. @rioferdy5 Bet you don't congratulate if you was player keeep the same morals. too face is boring."

He continued: "You don't praise simple as. Fakessssssssss for [money emoji]." It comes after Ferdinand said City's players have become "immortal" by winning the treble and labelled them a "fantastic team".

While Williams was left furious at Ferdinand, the manager who delivered the treble for United appeared to take an opposite view. Sir Alex Ferguson sent City boss Pep Guardiola a good luck message before Saturday's final, according to the Spaniard.

"I was so happy to get a message from Sir Alex Ferguson on my phone this morning. It touched me. I am so happy to be sat alongside Sir Alex. Winning the Treble is so difficult, but it was written in the stars that we would win this season," he said.

"This trophy is so difficult to win. This competition is a (toss of a) coin. But now it belongs to us. We're going to celebrate in the hotel with family and friends and on Monday the parade is in Manchester."

Sancho handed reality check

United boss Erik ten Hag has warned Jadon Sancho that he needs to prove he can become a key player at Old Trafford. The winger has strugged since arriving from Borussia Dortmund two years ago.

He scored just seven goals and notched only three assists in all competitions in the season just gone. While Ten Hag used him frequently in that campaign, Sancho is still yet to show why United paid more than £75m for him.

According to the Sun that has led Ten Hag to make it clear that Sancho needs to step up next season. The Dutchman recently held one-on-one talks with Sancho and in it dealt the reality check about his future.
