Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag pushing for Harry Kane transfer as new takeover proposal made

Now that the 7-0 defeat to Liverpool is in the rear-view mirror, Manchester United fans can turn their attention back to more exciting topics: transfers and takeover talk.

The Red Devils took a step towards redeeming themselves by recording a much-needed 4-1 win at home to Real Betis on Thursday, meaning that Erik ten Hag's side have one foot in the Europa League quarter-finals. United are back in Premier League action this Sunday as Southampton visit Old Trafford, where there's plenty going on.

As the summer transfer window draws closer, Ten Hag and the club's recruitment team are busy identifying targets, with Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen - the latter of whom Paris Saint-Germain are said to be lining up a mega-money swoop for - among them. But the landscape could change soon enough given the looming potential takeover.

Here's a round-up of the latest news from Old Trafford.

Ten Hag pushing for Kane swoop

Erik ten Hag is personally driving Manchester United's pursuit of Harry Kane, the Manchester Evening News reports. Kane, 29, will be in the final year of his Tottenham contract at the end of this season, and after Spurs were dumped out the Champions League on Wednesday, he'll go trophy-less for another campaign.

As the England captain ponders over his long-term future, Ten Hag wants to capitalise and has told Red Devils chiefs to mount a transfer assault. But United - who could also move for Napoli hotshot Victor Osimhen - are set to face competition from German giants Bayern Munich, as they've also earmarked Kane as their top striker target.

Elliott offers Glazers fresh proposal

Elliott Management has made it through the second stage of Manchester United's sale process, despite the US hedge fund not wanting to buy the club. Representatives from Elliott are reported to have been present at Old Trafford on Thursday to watch the Red Devils return to winning ways, according to BBC Sport.

The investment group, which previously owned Italian giants AC Milan, is offering financial backing to all parties involved in a potential takeover and could support the Glazers if they choose to stay. Their backing could be through a partial purchase or assisting with redevelopment work at Old Trafford and the club's Carrington training headquarters.

Ten Hag issues encouraging Eriksen update

Christian Eriksen will play for Manchester United again this season, Erik ten Hag has confirmed. Midfield playmaker Eriksen has been out of action since January after suffering a serious ankle injury during the Red Devils' 3-1 FA Cup fourth-round victory over Reading.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's game against Southampton, the United manager said of Eriksen: "I think he will play, yeah, definitely. But I can't tell now an expectation, but I think his progress with the rehab is okay. It's going according to plan, so we will definitely see him, but not before the international break."
