Man Utd news: Erik ten Hag in line for new contract amid "bad memories" admission

Manchester United are looking to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup when they face Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils booked their place in the last eight of the Europa League by beating Real Betis on Thursday and will be hoping to continue their impressive cup form when they take on Fulham. It is poised to be a tricky test for United, given that the Cottagers sit ninth in the Premier League and have had an impressive campaign so far.

But Erik ten Hag has transformed the mentality of the Red Devils and they will fancy themselves to beat anyone that is put in front of them as they eye multiple major honours this season. United have already won one trophy, having beaten Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final last month.

Here is the latest news coming out of Old Trafford.

Fixtures rearranged

Manchester United's Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest has been rearranged to Sunday, April 16, from the original date of Saturday, April 15 due to the Red Devils' participation in the Europa League.

Ten Hag's men are set to host Sevilla in the first leg of their quarter-final tie on Thursday, April 13, before travelling to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium a week later. It means their Premier League clash with Forest, which is sandwiched between the two fixtures, will take place on the Sunday.

They were scheduled to face Forest at Saturday at 5:30pm, but the game has been switched to Sunday at 4:30pm live on Sky Sports, with Manchester City's clash with Leicester moving the opposite way. United have already made the trip to the City Ground this season - in the Carabao Cup semi-finals - where the Red Devils ran out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford, Wout Weghorst and Bruno Fernandes.

Ten Hag set for new contract

Erik ten Hag is in line to be given a new Manchester United contract - regardless of who owns the club.

Ten Hag has had such a profound impact in his first year at Old Trafford that plans are already being drawn up to offer an extension on the three-year deal he signed last summer. The Glazer family, who have owned United since May 2005, are involved in negotiations to sell up for £6billion.

Britain’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and representatives working for Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani stepped up their interest in taking over by visiting Manchester for talks during the week. But the Glazers have made it clear that it is business as usual while the process is ongoing.

United have indicated to Ten Hag that they want to reward him for the progress he has made during his short time at the club. And the feedback from Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group and Sheikh Jassim’s Nine Two Foundation is that both bidders believe Ten Hag is the right manager to bring back the glory days.

Pereira makes Ten Hag admission

Andreas Pereira has revealed he avoided crunch talks with Erik ten Hag to ensure he left the club last summer.

The Brazilian ace ended his 11-year stay at Old Trafford in July as he made the £10million switch to Fulham following their promotion to the Premier League. Pereira joined the world-famous United academy at the age of 16 and went onto make 75 senior appearances for the Red Devils.

Ahead of Fulham's trip to United in the FA Cup quarter-finals, Pereira told ESPN: "I didn't speak with Ten Hag. I know him because I worked with him at PSV but I was determined in my head and maybe if I spoke with the manager again I would stay. In my head I was thinking 'I need to go, I need to feel confident and play' and that’s what I did. At United, I had a lot of memories; good memories, bad memories."
