Man Utd news: Anthony Martial gets his way as Cristiano Ronaldo transfer hint dropped

Things are beginning to get a little chaotic for Manchester United ahead of the new season.

While the signing of Tyrell Malacia appears to represent solid business, intense speculation over the possible departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and potential arrival of Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona has triggered incessant debate among fans.

With the new season under a month away, new manager Erik ten Hag will be desperate to bring some clarity to both of those sagas. However, a few twists and turns feel likely to play out in both cases over the coming weeks, making the build-up to the new season far from streamlined.

Mirror Sport has all of your latest United news.

Will Ronaldo still be a Red Devils player come the end of the transfer window? Let us know in the comments section below!

Martial gets his wish

United forward Anthony Martial will reportedly get a chance to impress under Ten Hag, despite falling out of favour in recent years at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman's arrival in 2015 was greeted with much excitement and while there have been flashes of talent from the Frenchman, he has struggled to live up to the early potential he showed.

Last season, United sent Martial out on loan to Sevilla in January, but 26-year-old only found the net once for the La Liga side.

Nevertheless, it would appear as though he will be handed a fresh chance under the new regime. That news will please United owner Joel Glazer, who is said to be such a big fan of Martial that he once blocked the player's sale under former boss Jose Mourinho.

De Jong's preference

Although Chelsea are attempting to make a late run at De Jong, the Dutch playmaker is said to favour a move to Manchester over the Blues.

The Red Devils have been linked with the midfielder all summer and while some reports have indicated that an agreement has been struck, the deal is apparently being held up over £17million that cash-strapped Barcelona owe the player in wages.

Chelsea have attempted to capitalise on the delay, with new owner Todd Boehly making a trip to Barcelona to hold talks over the player. That's after the Catalan club signed former Blues defender Andreas Christensen.

However, while Chelsea can offer Champions League football to De Jong immediately, the player is reported to be open to working with Ten Hag again, having shone under him at Ajax. Previously, the player has also made it clear he would like to stay at Barcelona.

Ronaldo included in kit reveal

For fans concerned about a star player leaving, it typically bodes well if they are included in the promotional material for a new kit. So those United supporters who don't want Ronaldo to go will be pleased that the veteran is one of the models for the new shirt.

Given Ronaldo's profile as one of the biggest sports stars on the planet, it makes sense for United to tap into his commercial value. But given the player wants out of Old Trafford, it would be a shock if too many fans rushed out to get his name and number on the new jersey.

According to reports, some material was filmed that featured Ronaldo alongside Eric Cantona and David Beckham for the release. It would appear United will hold fire on releasing that until the club has a clearer idea over the Portuguese's position in the squad.
