Man Utd news: Anthony Elanga proves vital as TV cameras capture Cristiano Ronaldo's fury

Anthony Elanga ensured Manchester United have parity against Atletico Madrid in their Champions League last-16 tie at the halfway stage.

The youngster came off the bench to score a late equaliser for the Red Devils, giving them a 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano.

It means they have an excellent chance of progressing with the second leg still to come at Old Trafford and although the overall performance left a lot to be desired on the night, manager Ralf Rangnick will be pleased with the determination showed by his players.

Elanga United's saviour

Although the 19-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season for United, there have been some ups and downs in recent weeks.

Elanga missed the decisive penalty in the shootout loss to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, but his response has been fantastic in recent games.

In the win over Leeds United he added the fourth goal in a 4-2 win and after coming off the bench against Atletico his pace and energy added a new dimension to the attack.

Colin Millar was full of praise for the efforts of the Sweden youth international and picked out four other talking points from a breathless game in Madrid.

Ronaldo fume captured

While Cristiano Ronaldo has tormented Atletico Madrid on numerous occasions in the past, he endured a quiet night back in Spain on Wednesday.

As a former Real Madrid player and club icon, Ronaldo was booed by the Atletico supporters throughout. Previously, he's been able to frequently quieten them with a goal, but the home defence rarely looked troubled by the Portuguese.

The 37-year-old cut a frustrated figure throughout and no more so than at half time, when broadcast cameras caught Ronaldo complaining about how the match was being officiated.

Simeone hails United duo

Ahead of Wednesday's fixture, Atletico boss Diego Simeone hailed United duo Paul Pogba and Scot McTominay as two of the best midfielders in the world.

Pogba has returned to action in recent weeks after an injury layoff and has impressed, adding a new physical and technical dimension to the hub of the side. Meanwhile, McTominay has been one of the team's most dependable performers in a season of ups and downs.

Simeone had particular praise for the pair and United's midfield options in general.

"They have an incredible midfield," said the Atletico manager. "I am incredibly impressed with the work rate.

"Pogba and McTominay are two of the best midfielders in the world with a great balance."
