There were no surprise incomings on transfer deadline for Manchester United as the club chose to finish the Premier League season with the squad they have.
That didn't stop them from being totally inactive in the window, with Donny van de Beek joining Everton in search of first-team football having been confined to the Old Trafford bench in the first-half of the season.
With Van de Beek being allowed to leave, the club chose to keep Jesse Lingard for the remainder of the season despite the fact his contract expires in the summer.
Late loan bids from Newcastle United and West Ham were reported to have been made but despite getting interim boss Ralf Rangnick's blessing to leave, and Van de Beek joining Amad Diallo and Anthony Martial out the door, United changed their mind at the 11th hour.
And with Rangnick being moved upstairs come May, the club would be making a huge mistake in keeping him in the dugout according to Stan Collymore.
Here are Mirror Football's latest Manchester United headlines.
Have Your Say! Should Manchester United have allowed Jesse Lingard to leave on loan? Let us know here.
Don't rush Rangnick decision
Speculation has begun to creep out that interim United boss Rangnick will be given the job full time at the end of the season.
The German coach replaced sacked coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the end of November after a poor start to the season.
Though Rangnick has only lost one game since taking over the reins at Old Trafford, the football on show hasn't always been impressive and the team have had to rely on David de Gea at times to keep them in games.
With no rush to make a decision, it would be crazy for United to give Rangnick the keys to Old Trafford on a permanent basis and miss out on other candidates who could improve the standard of play on the pitch according to Stan Collymore.
Rangnick isn't going anywhere anytime soon so those in charge at United should take emotion out of the decision and wait until the final kick of the season before sitting down and choosing the best man for the job.
Van de Beek breaks his silence
It's been a difficult spell in Manchester for Donny van de Beek.
The Dutchman failed to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team following his move from Ajax in 2021 and has found his options limited under Rangnick.
The midfielder will now have a fresh start having joined Everton on loan on transfer deadline day and has spoken about the move.
"Now I can say I am an Everton player, I am really happy and can't wait to help the team," he said.
Lingard is staying
One player who did not get a deadline day move was Lingard, despite having multiple teams offer to bring him in on loan.
Lingard has endured a frustrating season after returning from West Ham on loan in the summer and was set for a move away from Old Trafford in an attempt to kick-start his season.
Rangnick gave his blessing for the England international to leave with Newcastle United and the Hammers interested in bringing him in until the end of the season.
However, at the final hurdle the club completed a dramatic U-turn which will see the 29-year-old see out the last six months of his contract at United.
