Man Utd make permanent manager decision as midfield shortlist is drawn up

Manchester United's search for a new centre-midfielder continues, and the club has now reportedly drawn up a three-man shortlist of players they hope can fill the problem position.

It comes after star man Bruno Fernandes has raised concerns about his current salary at the club, with at least two players believed to be pocketing more than three times his wages.

The club are also reportedly stepping up their search for their next permanent manager as interim boss Ralf Rangnick continues to struggle to get the best out of the Old Trafford squad following his arrival towards the end of last year.

New manager plan emerges

United have reportedly stepped up their search for the next permanent manager at Old Trafford.

Ralf Rangnick was announced as the club's new interim boss in December after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left following a downturn in results.

But with no significant improvement in the level of performances, the club are reported to have ramped up their plans for a new manager and a new face could come in before the end of the current campaign.

Fernandes snubs contract offer

Bruno Fernandes has snubbed a new contract offer from the club, according to reports.

Fernandes is said to have turned down the deal at the end of last year after pushing for more than his current £100,000 a week basic salary.

The club is currently paying David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo more than three times as much as Fernandes but the Portuguese midfielder is reported to want parity with other stars at Old Trafford.

United are said to be happy to continue discussions with the player and his representatives, although one major factor in them being able to offer the sort of financial package Fernandes wants could be how they fare in the league this season.

Midfield shortlist

Football director John Murtough has reportedly drawn up a three-man shortlist of targets to help solve the club's issues in the middle of the park.

Former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was widely reported to have raised concerns about the club's failure to bring in a new centre-midfielder last summer and problems have persisted this season.

Paul Pogba's contract expires at the end of the season and questions have been raised of Nemanja Matic, who turns 34 this year, making the issue even more pressing for the club.

And a list of targets, which is said to contain two England internationals, has now reportedly been drawn up by bosses at Old Trafford.
