Manchester United have made the decision to sell midfielder James Garner this summer, something that will come as a major boost to Nottingham Forest’s hopes of signing him.
The 21-year-old impressed on loan with the Reds last season, playing a key part in the club’s promotion to the Premier League at the end of the campaign. His ball into the box caused Levi Colwill to turn the ball into his own net for the decisive goal in the play-off final vs Huddersfield Town back in May.
Forest are keen to bring the midfielder back to the City Ground this summer, but had to wait for Manchester United to make a decision on the player. New manager Erik ten Hag was keen to take a look at the academy graduate in pre-season.

According to our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News , United have now taken the decision to cash in on Garner this summer. It is said that the Red Devils are looking for a fee of between £15 million and £20 million.
Forest are likely to be one of the first clubs to show their interest in a transfer this summer, but they may not be alone in wanting to sign Garner. The report adds that Tottenham, along with Forest are ‘interested’ in the player, while Leicester City have previously been credited with showing an interest.
The news that United are looking for a permanent deal for Garner is also good news for Forest, with Premier League rules meaning that a loan deal wouldn’t be possible, unless an obligation to buy is inserted. Rules state that clubs are only allowed one loan player from an individual Premier League club, with Forest already having goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan from Man United.
