Man Utd loan report as goalkeeping talent Nathan Bishop enjoys ninth win in ten games

Manchester United's 2022 hasn't got off to the ideal start so far. Their two games have seen them play Aston Villa on both occasions.

They scraped through the sides' FA Cup meeting last week before blowing a two-goal lead at Villa Park in the Premier League.

Whilst there is plenty to ponder for interim boss Ralf Rangnick, what about those players away from the club?

Over the summer, United sent a batch of players out on loan. And a handful of them were despatched to teams in the EFL as they look to continue their development.

Here, we look at how they got on during what was a busy weekend across the Championship and Leagues One and Two.

Which Man Utd loanees will make the step up to the first team? Tell us your prediction here

Teden Mengi

The United defender is finally enjoying some regular game time after joining Birmingham City until the end of the season.

On Saturday he made his second appearance for the Blues, in their 1-1 draw with Preston.

He played the whole game and put in an encouraging shift.

He played in a particularly cute cross in the second half which begged to be tapped in. The only blot on his copybook was a booking, dished out just before the hour mark.

Ethan Laird

Winger Laird was recalled from a profitable loan spell at Swansea before being sent back out to Bournemouth.

But he is still awaiting his debut for his new temporary employers.

Laird was not in the squad for Saturday's defeat to Luton Town.

Cherries' boss Scott Parker said of his and fellow new arrival James Hill's absence: "They [Laird and James Hill] still need time on the grass and still need time with us."

James Garner

Garner played the full 90 minutes as Nottingham Forest sealed a last-gasp win at Millwall.

Lewis Grabban's late goal pinched the points in a game where Garner again impressed. He showed off his repertoire of passes and also got involved with the dirty side of the game, helping out his defence.

It was another encouraging performance as Forest moved to within five points of the play-offs.

Di'Shon Bernard

The on-loan Hull City defender enjoyed a torrid afternoon as Stoke City won 2-0 on Sunday.

It was a third successive defeat for the Tigers. Jacob Brown and Tom Ince notched the goals in an impressive win for the Potters.

But Bernard struggled against a lively attack and was handed a yellow card - his eighth of the campaign. That is the joint-highest in the division and shows an obvious need for Bernard to work on that particular side of his game.

Ethan Galbraith

The talented Northern Ireland midfielder continues to impress despite Doncaster Rovers' struggles.

The South Yorkshire side are bottom of League One but put up a spirited fight in a narrow defeat to Wigan on Saturday.

Galbraith claimed his third assist of the season when his free-kick was flicked in by Omar Bogle. It was a performance full of promise from the 20-year-old, who sat deeper against the Latics and spread the play well.

The only downside was another booking - his sixth of the season.

Nathan Bishop

Goalkeeper Bishop kept a clean sheet as Mansfield racked up a ninth win in ten league games, beating Walsall 2-0.

The Stags are in excellent form right now and Bishop aided their cause with a superb save in the first half, when the score was goalless.

Nigel Clough's side then went on to notch twice through Harry Charsley as they moved up into the play-off spots.

D'Mani Mellor

Mellor now appears to be back in the picture at Salford, featuring in a matchday squad for the second game in a row.

He was an unused sub in their 2-1 defeat away at Bradford City.
