Man Utd great Gary Neville explains what Casemiro will be thinking about Premier League title race

Gary Neville thinks a serial winner like Casemiro will believe his Manchester United side can still nick the Premier League this season.

United travel to Anfield on Sunday, knowing a win against Liverpool will cement their place in the top four, following defeats for both Tottenham and Newcastle. The more optimistic around Old Trafford will instead be looking up, however, and seeing wins for Arsenal and Manchester City.

Erik ten Hag's side will need three points to remain in touching distance of the top-two - that would take them to within 11 points of the Gunners with a game in hand - and while a shock title is still possible, it remains the most unlikely of the three remaining trophies.

But Neville believes some within the squad will still genuinely believe they can do it, particularly someone like Casemiro who is so used to winning major silverware with Real Madrid.

"There might be a couple in that dressing room [who believe]," Neville told Sky Sports. "Casemiro, someone who’s used to winning titles, someone who’s used to having that confidence to get his team over the line, that might think let’s hang in there, let’s see if anyone slips up.

"I don’t think they’ll do that this season, they’re too far off Arsenal and City and they’ve got a lot on in the next few months anyway, but what they are building is a trust back in us - United fans - United fans like them again. It wasn’t too long ago we had huge doubts about some of those players and Erik ten Hag has turned it around.

"They’ve answered a few questions, beaten Barcelona, that was a big test for them. Winning the trophy was something that hasn’t happened for five or six seasons and coming here is one of the ultimate tests.

"United haven’t won here for six seasons - that is a long time and when we came here it was a hell of a tough game, we never won a game here easy and when we did it wasn’t often as well. United, not the ultimate test, but it’s a massive test for them today."
