Manchester United could be set for a major overhaul in the summer as Erik ten Hag lays down the law to some of his underperforming stars.
The Dutchman was unhappy with his side after they were beaten 2-0 at Newcastle and told his United players that they are "in the wrong place" if they do not have the hunger to succeed. United face Brentford on Wednesday as they try and bounce back from another away defeat against a top half team - and it feels like a massive game in defining where the Red Devils finish this season.
Ten Hag's men currently sit fifth, level on points with fourth-place Tottenham but will leap above Spurs in the table should they not lose against Brentford, who recorded a 4-0 win in the reverse fixture in August.
There has been a massive improvement since that humiliation, but Ten Hag demands more. The 53-year-old was visibly frustrated with a number of his players after the Newcastle defeat and it could spark some changes at the end of the season as he shuffles his pack.
Someone that could be at risk of being shown the door is Jadon Sancho . The England ace has struggled to play regularly so far this season and Ten Hag is starting to grow impatient with the £73million man.
Sancho, 23, hasn't made the required impact since coming back into the team following a three-month exodus, having scored just twice in 12 appearances. According to the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag is irritated with Sancho's progress and expects more from him as his long-term future is now placed at risk.
Meanwhile, Scott McTominay is another player facing an uncertain future. The Scotland star, who impressed for his country on international duty, failed to deliver for United when he was handed a rare start at St James' Park on Sunday.
McTominay has been linked with a move to Newcastle and it was a potential chance to show why the Magpies are after him and also why United should keep him. But the 26-year-old simply delivered neither and he could be surplus to requirements with Ten Hag favouring other midfielders instead.
Phil Jones , however, will leave United this summer. The centre-back is out of contract and hasn't played a minute for Ten Hag this season.
Harry Maguire 's time at the Red Devils could also be coming to an end, despite joining for £80m four years ago. The England defender has fallen behind Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the pecking order and has been linked with a return to former club Leicester in the summer window.
In contrast to the four previously mentioned, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has impressed when given a chance but doesn't suit Ten Hag's system at the moment and may be offloaded. The 25-year-old has done well during his time on the pitch but it has been reported that United will 'listen to offers ' for him this summer as they eye a new profile at right-back.
Despite impressing towards the start of Ten Hag's reign, Anthony Martial could also be sold in the summer. The Frenchman has frustrated supporters with his injury record and just hasn't been able to stay fit for sustained periods of time, with Wout Weghorst taking his place up front.
