Manchester United have been charged by the FA for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during their goalless draw with Newcastle on Sunday.
United's players surrounded referee Craig Pawson after he disallowed a Cristiano Ronaldo goal in the early stages of a second half at Old Trafford, with a furious Ronaldo and teammates claiming the visitors had taken a free-kick to restart the match before the Portuguese put the ball in the net.
Ronaldo was booked during the protests, and now United have until Thursday to respond to the charge.
An FA spokesman said: "Manchester United FC has been charged with a breach of FA rule E20.1 following its Premier League game against Newcastle United FC on Sunday (16/10/22).
"It's alleged that Manchester United FC failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 49th minute of this match, and the club has until Thursday (20/10/22) to respond."
United boss Erik ten Hag was tight-lipped about the incident after the match, simply saying: "I don't have a comment. "Everyone has seen it."
Ten Hag had made a beeline for Pawson immediately after the full-time whistle, and when asked if this was to discuss the disallowed goal he said: "As I said, I share that with them. You can try [to ask me].
"Everyone has seen the game. It's your job to judge the performance from the teams and from the refs not me, so I will not do it."
United's goalless draw kept them outside the top four, and they currently sit 11 points behind leaders Arsenal ahead of Wednesday's visit of Tottenham.
Reflecting on the match, Ten Hag said: "I'm disappointed with the result but I'm happy with the performance.
"A lot of elements of the team, the way of playing, we transferred on the pitch. We have seen that.
"The pressing the whole game was good. The second half possession was better. We made an improvement after half-time.
"Then you saw we dominate that game in the second half by far and also in the end the physical, again the mentality, how we kept going.
"You saw the problems they had and that is one of the best physical teams in the league. They all had cramp and we didn't because we let them run because we were good on the ball and our pressing was good.
"In the end we break them but didn't kill them by not scoring. We had the chances with Rashford - the assist for Fred and header from a great, great cross from Casemiro.
"OK, that happens, in football, so happy with the performance but disappointed with the result."
