Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag tells Cody Gakpo he's 'perfect' Cristiano Ronaldo replacement and more transfer rumours

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly told PSV winger Cody Gakpo that he sees him as the 'perfect' replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to the Mirror, the Dutchman has told Gakpo that he is the man to replace Ronaldo at Old Trafford. The report even claims that the attacker could take the No.7 shirt as Ten Hag looks to continue the rebuild of his United squad following the £225million he spent in the summer transfer window.

It is thought that Ten Hag will look to the relationship he had with Gakpo during his time in charge of the PSV academy more than ten years ago. The Dutchman is understood to have kept up a friendship with both the 23-year-old and his family, as the forward considers his options away from the Eredivisie.

United had been interested in signing the PSV star over the summer, before the club eventually concentrated their efforts in making a move for Antony instead. Ronaldo's departure this summer has accelerated the need to sign further attacking options and Gakpo could become the seventh signing at Old Trafford since Ten Hag took the reigns.

Elsewhere, the Daily Star report that United are prepared to make Marcus Rashford the highest-paid player at the club.

They claim that should Rashford commit his long-term future to United, the Reds are ready to offer him a staggering £400,000 per week wage. Ronaldo, who was rumoured to be on £500k p/w, was the previous top earner at Old Trafford - with the England international set to surpass David de Gea's apparent weekly wage of £375k.

The Three Lions star impressed during his time in Qatar with Gareth Southgate's side and as the 25-year-old starts to attract the interest of Europe's top clubs, United will be desperate for Rashford to commit his future to the cub for the foreseeable future.
