Man Utd add another friendly as Erik ten Hag establishes plans during World Cup

Manchester United are set to face Real Betis in their second December friendly during the World Cup.

Erik ten Hag's side will also face fellow La Liga side Cadiz on December 7 as part of their training camp in Spain. The United boss is set to work with his players who aren't going to the tournament in the lead-up to their first Premier League game back against Nottingham Forest on December 27.

According to The Athletic, United will face Betis at the Benito Villamarin stadium in Seville on December 10 - three days after their trip to Cadiz. Betis are currently fourth in La Liga, one point ahead of Real Socieded, who are the Red Devils' opponents in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Sociedad, who secured a 1-0 reverse win at Old Trafford back in September, sit at the top of Group E and require just a draw to win the group. Meanwhile, Ten Hag's side need to win by two or more goals in San Sebastian to pip Sociedad to top spot - meaning they would progress into the Last-16 - avoiding a two-legged tie against a third-place Champions League team in February.

The Red Devils have three further fixtures after the trip to Sociedad before the World Cup, with Aston Villa to come in both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup, before they face Fulham on November 13 - their final game before the tournament starts a week later. Ten Hag is expected to give the players who don't go to the tournament some time off before the training camp begins in Spain.

It is understood that United are set to announce the Betis fixture in due course, with Ten Hag's side spending a week in Spain either side of the two matches. It will be a tricky game for the Red Devils, with Betis winning seven and drawing two of their 12 La Liga matches so far this season - only Barcelona and Real Madrid have accumulated more points this season.

Betis are managed by former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, who took over in June 2020 after leaving West Ham United six months before. He has an impressive record in southern Spain, winning 61 of his 116 matches as Betis managed to finish fifth in the 2021/22 campaign.

Like United, Betis also compete in the Europa League. They have already won their group, picking up 13 points from a possible 15, with Roma and Ludogorets fighting for second spot.

Borja Iglesias is Betis' current top scorer, with the Spaniard netting eight times in all competitions this season. They also boast Nabil Fekir, Sergio Canales and former Wolves man Willian Jose in their ranks.
