Former Liverpool defender and pundit Jamie Carragher has told Manchester United that they should get Thomas Tuchel as their next manager.
It comes amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Chelsea, following sanctions levied upon owner Roman Abramovich.
The 55-year-old was among a number of people sanctioned by the UK Government on Thursday morning, freezing his assets in the UK that includes Chelsea Football Club.
In the report, it claims that the billionaire is a “pro-Kremlin oligarch”, also saying he has ties to president Vladimir Putin for “decades”. Roman Abramovich has always refuted any links with Vladimir Putin.
The freezing of Abramovich’s assets includes Chelsea, who will now operate under the “Russia Regulations” licence until the end of May.
This means that the future of the club is in doubt, with the potential sale blocked and a number of other activities, such as selling tickets, also completely restricted.
That also includes the blocking of transfers and contract renewals, putting the playing squad at an equally uncertain position.
As a result, Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester United should try and hire Blues’ boss Thomas Tuchel for their vacant position.
Taking to Twitter he said: “Man Utd should go for Thomas Tuchel right away!”
In his article for the Telegraph, the former defender claims that the uncertainty surrounding Chelsea could open the door for a switch and that those at Manchester United should have the German coach at the top of their list to hire.
Whether that would be enough to tempt him away from Stamford Bridge remains to be seen, with so much left to be sorted out off-the-pitch.
However, should things go as planned for Tuchel, he has already stated how he feels about his post in London.
Speaking last week, the manager said: “Chelsea, for me, is a perfect fit. I love to be here and I love everything about the club. Hopefully it continues.
“There is now uncertainty, but isn't it always as a football manager? I'm used and trained to live with it on different levels. This is quite a new level but I have to live with it. I am positive and I hope things will end well.”
Given all that Tuchel has done for the club since his arrival, many will be hoping that he stays for the foreseeable future.
However, while there is still doubt, it remains unclear as to where the club goes from here on out.
