Man United 'think Victor Osimhen is a better fit than Harry Kane' and more transfer rumours

Manchester United reportedly believe that Napoli ace Victor Osimhen would be a better fit at Old Trafford than Tottenham Hotspur captain Harry Kane.

MEN Sport understands that signing a striker will be Erik ten Hag's priority in the summer having lost Cristiano Ronaldo in November. The Reds are monitoring both Osimhen and Kane.

The Daily Telegraph claim that United see Osimhen's pace, strength and pressing as the perfect qualities for a Ten Hag team. They add that the Dutchman has watched extensive footage of the 24-year-old in action and while there are concerns about some aspects of his performances, his improvements this campaign have been notable.

So far this season, Osimhen has managed to rack up 17 goals in 21 appearances for the Serie A leaders. This tally includes a brace at the weekend as Napoli brushed aside Spezia 3-0.

Elsewhere, the Reds have been listed among a trio of clubs who are looking at Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The 24-year-old defensive midfielder played against United twice in the Europa League this season, his only appearances in the competition this term to date.

Bar a one-game suspension, Zubimendi has been ever-present in La Liga and is highly thought of in European football. His current contract expires in 2027 but a €60million bid is claimed to be enough to secure his services.

Speaking to Caught Offside, journalist Ben Jacobs named Barcelona and Spurs as the Reds' competitors for Zubimendi's signature. He explained: "Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi will draw plenty of summer interest, too.

"He’s so calm on the ball and an intelligent defender, who also wins his fair share of aerial duels and second balls. Suitors in January were told to pay Zubimendi’s €60m release clause or no deal would be done.

"And the player himself wasn’t really pushing for a move. He only signed a new five-year deal at the club in October.

"But a transfer is very possible in the summer, especially considering Zubimendi wasn’t willing to have his release clause raised. That makes him attainable on the market.

"Barcelona coach Xavi also admires Zubimendi, though it remains to be seen if the finances are workable to proceed. Keep an eye on Tottenham and Manchester United as well."
