Man United's Erik ten Hag move hands Tottenham Harry Kane and Lautaro Martinez transfer boost

Man United announced the appointment of Erik ten Hag on Thursday morning, a manager once linked with a move to Tottenham. The current Ajax boss will make the move to Manchester ahead of the 2022/23 season, in replacement of Ralf Rangnick.

The Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League and have faced a lot of criticism over their recent performances, which have shown a lack of fight and energy. Tottenham are currently in the fourth spot, which United are also battling for but Spurs are now level on points with Arsenal after the Gunners' win over Chelsea on Wednesday.

With United having just five games left to play and Spurs having six, the end of the season is just around the corner. With the final day approaching, it also means the opening of the summer transfer window is also looming and Ten Hag's appointment could now hand Fabio Paratici some transfer boosts.

This season, Tottenham's front three have gone from strength to strength, aside from Saturday's . After Harry Kane's slow start he seems back to his best and his combination goals with Son Heung-min have broken Premier League records already this season.

Dejan Kulusevski was one of Spurs' two signings in the January transfer window and the Swede has made an immediate impact. The 21-year-old has already scored three goals and registered six assists in just 12 Premier League appearances.

The trio have given Liverpool's front three a run for their money, even though Jurgen Klopp's side are currently fighting for the league title. However what the 54-year-old has that Conte doesn't is quality in the depth of his squad.

Whilst Liverpool played Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as their front three in their 3-2 FA Cup semi final victory over Man City on Saturday, Klopp was able to bring on Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino during the game. At 0-0 and as Spurs were struggling to get anything out of their game against Brighton, the Italian brought on Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura.

The Tottenham duo have both made a major impact when coming on as substitutes in previous games, but this wasn't the case against Graham Potter's side. Conte has this lack of consistent quality on the bench at Spurs, which makes it hard for him to rotate when things aren't going as planned.

This is one reason why Tottenham could have a busy transfer window ahead of them. Martinez is one player who has been on Spurs' radar for a while.

The 24-year-old has made 29 Serie A appearances so far this season, scoring 15 goals and registering three assists for Inter Milan. Last summer the Lilywhites had agreed a £60million fee for the Argentine but the deal was never completed.

However since then, Conte has made the move to north London and there are still hopes of Tottenham playing Champions League football next season. Former Spurs keeper Paul Robinson recently had his say on what impact he believes Martinez would have.

"I think he would take Spurs to a different level. He’s an amazing player," the 42-year-old admitted.

"Spurs have a great front three but they cannot play every week. Jurgen Klopp has found that out with his front three. He has five players in rotation for those positions.

"As well as Spurs’ front three are doing at the moment they cannot play every game. It is a squad game now more than ever. When you talk about Martinez coming in we are assuming that Kane will still be there but I’m not sure he will. His aspirations will not have changed. He has a good relationship with Conte but he will want to win titles."

However football.london understands that there are hopes within the club that the 28-year-old will remain a Tottenham player next season. If this remains the case, it will give the club, fans and the Spurs boss a boost, ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

After Man United's 4-0 defeat to Liverpool, Rangnick gave an honest verdict on the current squad. "If you analyse the situation, it's not that difficult to analyse," he admitted, when making comparisons between his side and Klopp's.

"The team needs a rebuild, not because some players have to go but quite a few have no contracts anymore, their contracts are expiring, then for me it's clear there will be six, seven, eight, maybe 10 new players."

It is ambitious to think that the Red Devils will be able to bring in 10 new players in one transfer window, even with the arrival of Ten Hag. However, it is clear that they will need to do a lot of business, making it even more difficult for them to afford someone like Kane.

The England captain's recent form will have increased his value once again and he is likely to have interest from a number of clubs. But with this rebuild that United are set to go through, splashing their money on Kane may not be an affordable solution.

It doesn't seem likely, which means Tottenham could have one less competitor trying to swoop in to steal their striker. This would also be a boost for the Martinez transfer, as the Argentine could come in and play alongside the likes of Kane, rather than having to act as his replacement.

Therefore Ten Hag's appointment may not have just been a welcome one by United fans, it may also help Tottenham in keeping their star man and attracting others.
