Manchester United have issued a statement in response to vile chants made by their club’s fans aimed at Liverpool supporters.
The Reds beat Man United 4-0 in the Premier League clash at Anfield on Tuesday night. Mohamed Salah scored a brace in the contest, with goals from Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane securing all three points.
Liverpool fans united with Man United’s travelling supporters to hold a minute’s applause early in the match for Cristiano Ronaldo and his family. The 37-year-old was absent after he was given time off following the death of his newborn son.
Later in the evening, a chant could be heard from United fans in the away end making reference to the S*n newspaper, along with other Hillsborough-baiting slurs.

In a club statement released tonight, United said: "Manchester United stands in solidarity with Liverpool and its fans in remembering victims of the Hillsborough disaster.
“Offensive chants about the tragedy are completely unacceptable and we will work with supporters’ groups to educate fans on the issue.”
Last week marked the 33rd anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, in which 97 Liverpool fans were unlawfully killed.
Days after the tragedy in 1989, the S*n falsely reported that Liverpool fans were to blame for what happened, along with a number of false claims about supporters under the incorrect headline "The Truth". The newspaper has been widely boycotted on Merseyside ever since.
