Man United offer fresh terms to Martin Svidersky but club expect midfielder to leave as retained list emerges

Manchester United have confirmed 11 players have been released ahead of Erik Ten Hag’s first summer in charge.

With the transfer window now officially open, the 52-year-old has begun work at Old Trafford and is keen on a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong, a player Ten Hag coached to great success while with Ajax.

It is expected to be a busy summer for the club after yet another disappointing season, one in which Ralf Rangnick consistently criticised his players and the structure around him while struggling to have much of an impact in the dugout.

The clear out sees big names such as Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata all depart on free transfers.

Pogba has been widely tipped to re-join Juventus while Cavani talked of his disappointment after a difficult second season with the club.

Lingard remains a target for West Ham following his successful loan stint while Matic has been linked with a move to Roma in order to reunite with Jose Mourinho once more.

Lee Grant, meanwhile, has retired from the game, along with fellow goalkeeper Paul Woolston, who was forced into the decision at only 23 after a chronic hip problem.

Paul McShane has also hung up his boots following his appointment as Academy playing coach and will continue with the club in the next phase of his coaching career.

Youngsters D’Mani Mellor, Reece Devine and Connor Stanley have been released and will receive support in finding a new club.

The club have also confirmed fresh terms were offered to Slovakian U21 international Martin Svidersky but the midfielder is set to depart regardless.

United have taken the decision to extend Dylan Levitt’s contract by another year following the Wales international’s productive loan spell with Dundee United.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “Everyone at the club would like to thank all of the departing players for their contributions to Manchester United and wish them the very best of luck for the future.”
