Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has admitted he would 'hate' to see Scott McTominay leave Old Trafford as the midfielder continues to be linked with a move to Newcastle.
The 26-year-old scored four goals for Scotland during the recent international break - grabbing two braces in the Euro 2024 qualifying victories over Cyprus and Spain. The famous triumph over the Spaniards saw Steve Clarke's side move to the top of Group A with two wins from two matches.
While McTominay has fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag following the arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, he has still made 32 appearances in all competitions. The midfielder has also registered two goals and one assist.

According to reports, the academy graduate is attracting interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle. However, Scholes would not be happy to see McTominay leave in the summer transfer window.
"He’s done great and will come back with loads of confidence. He’s a really talented player, he’s a really good player," Scholes said on the Webby and O'Neill YouTube channel.
"He’s got on with his job and he’s a top class player Scott. It’s a big few weeks for Scott with rumours about him leaving the club. A lot of rumours about Newcastle.
"I hate to see homegrown talent leaving the club to be honest with you but sometimes it has to happen. If he can come into this team and show that Casemiro isn’t missed, hopefully he will still be with us next year."
McTominay, who has made 202 first-team appearances for United, was part of the Reds side that defeated Newcastle to win the Carabao Cup in February.
