Man United injury news: Erik ten Hag admits doubt on Anthony Martial’s fitness ahead of Nottingham Forest trip

Anthony Martial’s fitness will still have to be managed despite his latest return from injury, according to Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils travel to Nottingham Forest today without Marcus Rashford, leading to a battle between Wout Weghorst and Martial for the central striker’s role.

Having played an hour against Sevilla in midweek, the Frenchman is the favourite to start yet Ten Hag has noted that his “history” with injuries will impact his decision.

“It's difficult to say because the history shows different,” he told reporters when asked about Martial’s role in the squad.

“But I want him to be because he's a great player.

“He definitely has the qualities to play top football. When he's fit, our team plays better.”

Martial, 27, has started only ten times for United this season and has not started back-to-back games since January - with no appearance lasting longer than 81 minutes.

Following a recent hip injury, his fifth fitness-related absence of the campaign, he made a trio of susbtitute appearances before starting the 2-2 draw with Sevilla.

United head to the City Ground on Sunday afternoon looking to reclaim third spot in the Premier League table with at least a point.
