Man United could hijack Rangers transfer plans with bids for Scottish duo

Manchester United are preparing a raid on two Scottish superkids James Wilson and Jack Wyllie..and could land a double blow on Rangers.

Rangers are desperate to tie down Wyllie to a contract when he turns 16 in August, but are aware of United's interest in the defender, who can play as a central defender and a right back.

The Ibrox club are also trying to sign Hearts youngster Wilson, who also turns 16, but there is serious interest from English clubs too with United leading the chase. Rangers have been given permission from Hearts to speak to the creative wide midfielder.

The Old Trafford giants would only have to pay around £120,000 for each player because of cross-border player compensation rules.

They are believed to have beefed up their Scottish scouring networks recently under Erik ten Hag, having missed out on former Rangers wonderkid Rory Wilson, who has impressed in his start at Aston Villa.

And it would be a major blow to the Ibrox side if they lost Wyllie from their academy and missed out on their swoop for Wilson too.

Both youngsters caught the eye while playing for Scotland Under 16s in the Victory Shield last month in Waterford in Ireland. The young Scots beat Wales and Northern Ireland, before losing their last game to the hosts to finish second.

Wyllie also impressed in Rangers' 4-1 win over Celtic in the Club Academy Scotland Under 16s Cup Final last month.

And United want to land both young Scots at the end of the season - with both unable to move south until then because they are under 16 - having scouted both extensively this term.
