You know what they say - one person’s mistake is another person’s opportunity.
And that was certainly the case for one TikToker who thankfully discovered her date’s true colours when he mistakenly sent a rude message to her instead of his friend.
Molly Hair described in a TikTok how her date had messaged her minutes before they were due to meet to ask if she was already at their rendezvous point. But before she could reply, he sent another message which clearly wasn’t meant for her, and read: “Waiting on this “c***.” I took a pinch for confidence.”
After realising he hadn’t sent this message to his friend but instead to the date he was talking about, the unnamed man immediately attempted to play down the slur, writing: “Omg I was joking with a buddy I’m just going to leave,” along with some face-palm emojis.
Definitely a face-palm moment.
In response, Molly wrote: “What?” before asking “Am I the c***?”
After sharing the message she received, Molly’s TikTok quickly went viral, gaining nearly 4m views along with more than 215,000 likes and thousands of comments from people who were desperate to find out what happened afterwards.
One person wrote: “I request to see the rest.”
“WE NEED THE REST... A PINCH OF WHAT??” Another person asked.
Someone else added: “This has to be a joke.”
“And of course he says the typical man response of iTs A jOkE,” a fourth person replied.
In a follow-up video, Molly gave the people what they wanted and provided more screenshots of the text conversation that happened after the offending text.
“At first I was confused and I didn’t really understand what he was saying,” Molly explains in the TikTok. “And when I realized what was going on, I immediately started driving away.”
The date answered her question, writing: “Omg I don’t really think that at all I joke too much I say shit like that just to say it.”
“I completely understand if this is over,” he added.
Unsurprisingly, accidentally calling a woman a “c***” isn’t attractive, so in response Molly let him down gently (but also made sure she called out his sexist behaviour in the process).
She wrote: “Yeah to be honest I’m not really comfortable meeting anymore. I just don’t really feel like it’s okay to call women that even as a joke and I kind of see it as a red flag sorry!”
“I’m sorry sorry sorry but I get it,” the date replied.
But the messages didn’t end there, as the TikToker recalled how the guy then attempted to call her before sending her a number of grovelling messages.
“Im really f***ing sorry Molly in no way shape or form did I think of you that way, I talk to much and I’m not as funny as I think,” he said, before adding he was “sick to my stomach” and that it was “God’s plan” for the pair not to go on the date.
“I accept the apology,” Molly said in response, “I have no hard feelings and I know you didn’t intend it in that way. Could just be an opportunity for you to learn not to throw that around to friends!”
The TikToker admitted that perhaps she was “too nice” in her rejection. “The social worker in me just wants to help people learn and grow from their mistakes, I probably should have just ignored him,” she said.
The date continued to send Molly messages, saying how “excited” he was to meet her and how “disappointed” he was with how things panned out.
Despite being told by the TikToker to “move forward,” he still couldn’t take the hint and asked “But not with you?”
Molly responded: “Yeah I think you have some growing up to do.”
Although she was clearly showing no interest in him, the guy STILL continued to text Molly, telling her he was “better than that” and added: “I just want to show you.”
To which Molly ignored him (who can blame her).
Three months later, and the guy tries to pluck up a conversation by texting “Hey” to Molly.
Again, Molly’s video went viral, gaining 1.5m views along with thousands of comments from people who couldn’t believe the guy’s audacity.
One person wrote: “He helped you dodge his own bullet.”
“Its the ‘hey’ four months later for me,” another person said.
Someone else added: “He really tried to say ‘God’s plan’ like it wasn’t the consequences of his own actions.”
“Men say the most vile things about women in front of their male friends. I’m glad you responded this way. Hopefully he learned something!” A fourth person responded.
Let’s hope he’s learned his lesson.
