A man accused of murdering a woman whose body was found in her Lincolnshire home is due to stand trial in May.

Kristine Sparane, 37, was discovered in Winsover Road, Spalding, at 7.30pm on 26 November.

When officers arrived they arrested Brian Simpson, 64, of Nene Court, Spalding. He was later charged with Sparane’s murder.

A provisional trial date has been set at Lincoln crown court for 19 May 2025. He is due to appear at the same court in January for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

Simpson appeared before Judge Knight on 4 December via video link from HMP Nottingham and was remanded in custody. Police said on 28 November that their investigation was continuing.

An appeal has been launched by staff at a nearby supermarket to raise money for Sparane’s five-year-old daughter, family and carers.

Stacey Nicholls, who works at the store, wrote: “We are all heartbroken by the sad news that Kristine passed away earlier this week. Leaving her little girl Mary who is only five.

“Everyone in the area I’m sure has seen them more often than not, whether it’s the shop on a daily basis to buy her doughnuts and croissants or the local takeaway, where she would stop by on her way home because they would give Mary a sweetie.

“I work at the local supermarket where she would come by every evening, we all knew them very well and this is hard for us all to comprehend.”
