Man to face court over death of teenage motocyclist

A man will face court charged over the death of a teenage motorcyclist and serious injury to his pillion passenger south of Brisbane.

Police allege a Toyota Hilux utility being driven dangerously in Waterford West struck a dirt bike being ridden by two boys on Saturday evening.

The 17-year-old rider died from his injuries at the scene and a 19-year-old pillion passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains.

The ute driver allegedly fled the scene without rendering assistance to the pair.

Polair tracked the vehicle to Loganholme, where a 21-year-old Thornlands man behind the wheel was taken into custody.

He was charged overnight with manslaughter, inflicting grievous bodily harm and failing to remain at the scene, and denied police bail to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police are urging witnesses, especially those with dashcam or CCTV from the area, to come forward.
