Both carriageways of the motorway were closed following the incident at 1.50pm near junction 3 of the motorway near Hyde. An air ambulance was scrambled to the scene but the casualty was taken to hospital in a road ambulance.

He was said to be in a serious but not life-threatening condition in hospital.

The motorway was re-opened at about 3pm.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 1.50pm this afternoon, (Thursday 13 April 2023), officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision on M67 eastbound close to junction 3 in Hyde, Tameside.

"Emergency services attended the scene and one male was taken to hospital with serious injuries but these are not believed to be life threatening.

"A 47-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a Class B drug.

"The M67 was closed in both directions for a short time to allow the air ambulance to land although the casualty was ultimately conveyed in a land ambulance.

"Police and National Highways remained at the scene pending recovery of the vehicle with only the west bound exit slip road at junction 3 closed. All closures were lifted by 5pm."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said an ambulance, rapid response vehicle and air ambulance were dispatched to a male patient with upper leg injuries.

The patient was transported to Manchester Royal Infirmary by road ambulance, said NWAS.
