Man taken to hospital after medical incident in Gateshead town centre

A man has been taken to hospital after an emergency incident in Gateshead town centre.

Emergency services were called to concerns for the welfare of a man at the Post Office on Jackson Street at around 6.30am on Monday.

Multiple police vehicles were present while the North East Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance and a specialist paramedic crew.

It is understood he received care at the scene before being transported to hospital.

The man's condition is currently unknown.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Shortly after 6.30am today (Monday) we received a report of concern for the welfare of a man at the Post Office on Jackson Street, Gateshead.

"The man has been taken to hospital."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We were called to a medical incident at around 6.30am.

"We dispatched one ambulance and a specialist paramedic crew."
